Next level Bacon Sarnies Recipe

Dishoom-Inspired Bacon “Naans” with Homemade Flatbreads & Chilli Jam

A fluffy flatbread, filled with crispy bacon, smooth cream cheese, coriander, and a spoonful of sweet, spicy chilli jam.

Bacon sandwiches are already a thing of beauty — but this recipe takes the classic bacon sarnie to the next level.

I first tried a Dishoom Bacon Naan last year when I ordered one of their meal kits for my birthday. I’d heard whispers of how legendary they were, and yes, they absolutely lived up to the hype. Since then, they’ve become a regular in our house. Sometimes for breakfast. Often for tea. (We’re not picky about meals being eaten at the “right” time. Breakfast for dinner is totally acceptable in our home.)

Sometimes I’ll make them with homemade naan (that’s a recipe for another day), but more often I use homemade flatbreads as they taste amazing and are much quicker. Naan needs a 2-hour resting time, so keep that in mind if you're planning ahead.

Dishoom Inspired Bacon “Naan” (Serves 4, or 3 very hungry people)

You’ll need:

  • 1 pack of smoked streaky bacon (around 14 slices)

  • 1 tub of cream cheese

  • Fresh coriander (or dried, if that’s what you’ve got)

  • Chilli jam (recipe below)

  • Flatbreads (homemade — recipe below)

How to make:

  1. Spread a warm flatbread with a generous layer of cream cheese.

  2. Add 3–4 slices of crispy bacon and a scattering of coriander.

  3. Spoon over some chilli jam to taste.

  4. Roll or fold it up and enjoy — preferably with a cup of chai.

Homemade Flatbreads

So simple and versatile. This is one of those recipes worth memorising as it’s perfect for everything from wraps and chicken shawarma to BBQ lamb and fajitas.

Ingredients: (Make 4 generous flatbreads)

  • 300g flour (I love using spelt, but any flour works)

  • 300g Greek yoghurt

  • Pinch of salt

  • Extra flour for dusting
(You’ll need a rolling pin and a frying pan)

How to make:

  1. Mix the flour, yoghurt, and salt in a bowl.

  2. Once it comes together, use your hands to form a dough ball.

  3. Divide the dough into four equal pieces.

  4. Roll each piece flat (around 1cm thick), dusting with flour as needed.

  5. Heat a dry frying pan over medium heat — no oil needed.

  6. Cook each flatbread until golden and puffed in places, then flip and toast the other side.

  7. Keep warm while you cook the rest.

Homemade Chilli Jam

Sticky, spicy, sweet, this chilli jam is a game-changer. It’s amazing with bacon naan, but also brilliant with cheese, roast veggies, or in a chicken sandwich.

The epic chilli-jam!

You’ll need:

  • 1 tin of tomatoes (plum, cherry, whatever’s in the cupboard)

  • 30g ginger (fresh, stem, or crystallised)

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 1 tsp dried chilli flakes

  • 75ml rice vinegar

  • 150g sugar (granulated, caster, or brown)

  • 2 clean jam jars

How to make:

  1. Add everything except the sugar to a saucepan and blitz with a stick or jug blender.

  2. Stir in the sugar, place over medium heat, and bring to a gentle simmer.

  3. Cook on low for about 30 minutes, until thick and glossy.

  4. Pour into sterilised jars while hot, seal, and store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
Once opened, keep refrigerated and use within a month.

These bacon naans are honestly one of the most satisfying things you can make with just a handful of ingredients. Every time I serve them up, they feel like a little celebration. Let me know if you give them a go!

Happy Eating!
