3 Things to Stop Doing If You Want the Business You Really Want
We all start our businesses with big ideas and even bigger dreams.
Freedom. Creativity. Purpose.
But somewhere along the way, things get, well, complicated.
The noise creeps in.
The shoulds get louder.
The business that once felt expansive starts to feel like a box you’re stuck inside.
Maybe you’re here now?
Everything looks fine on the surface, but deep down, you know something isn’t right.
You're showing up. Delivering. Doing all the “right” things.
But it feels like you’ve ended up somewhere you never meant to go. The good news?
You’re not broken. You’re just out of alignment, which is a fancy way of saying things are askew.
And often, creating the business you really want isn’t about adding more.
It’s about intentionally letting go of what no longer fits.
Here are three things to stop doing today, if you want to return to the version, and true vision, of your business
1. Stop Trying to Please Everyone
This one’s a quiet trap. It’s sneaky.
You want to be helpful. Approachable. Flexible.
So you build offers for “everyone.” You tweak your messaging to appeal to all the people, and in the process, your magic gets diluted.
The problem with trying to work with everyone, is that you lose your specialism or thing that you are known for.
You end up with services you don’t love delivering, clients who aren’t quite the right fit, and a brand that feels… flat, as it’s being pulled in so many different directions.
The business you want is specific. Personal. Rooted in your voice, your people, and your values.
(And if you’re stuck on knowing what you want, business coaching can help you find clarity on who you’re truly here for and how to build offerings that serve them without compromising yourself.)
2. Stop Ignoring the Red Flags
You know the ones. I bet one has just jumped into your mind.
The client who always pushes the boundaries.
The offer that leaves you drained every time.
The marketing tactic that makes your stomach twist.
We brush them off. Tell ourselves it’s “just part of running a business.”
But those subtle discomforts? They’re signs. Not of failure, but big red flags of misalignment.
They’re signs telling you not to go down this route.
And when you ignore them for too long, resentment builds. Energy drops. Creativity vanishes. Burnout follows close behind.
One of the most powerful things coaching can do is hold up a mirror to those red flags, and help you make clear, confident shifts in your business before they become full-blown emergencies.
3. Stop Playing by Someone Else’s Rules
The online business world is full of formulas.
“Here’s how to scale.”
“Here’s how to show up.”
“Here’s how to make 6-figures in 60 days.”
I wrote those sentances and instantly felt icky.
What if none of that “advice” feels right?
What if you’re not here to build fast and loud?
What if you crave depth over reach, quality over volume, connection over conversion?
It’s possible, and the best news is there is no one way to do this. It’s totally up to you.
The business you really want won’t come from following someone else’s path, it’ll come from trusting your own.
Through business coaching, you get to explore what your version of success looks like, and build the strategy, structure, and message that support that.
So how do you craft the business you really want?
The business you’re craving probably doesn’t need a complete overhaul. It likely just needs some small changes that make a big different.
Letting go of what no longer fits. Saying no to what drains you. Saying yes to what lights you up.
You’re allowed to change direction. You’re allowed to rebuild. You’re allowed to want a business that feels like you again.
Because the business you really want? It’s possible.
And it starts with letting go.
